Certified Peer Support Specialist
Peer Support services emphasize personal safety, self-worth, confidence, and growth, connection to the community, boundary setting, planning, self-advocacy, personal fulfillment, and development of social supports, the helper principle, and effective communication skills. Services emphasize the acquisition, development, and expansion of rehabilitative skills needed to move forward in recovery. Peer Support Specialists will identify themselves as a person who has been diagnosed with an SPMI or as a recovering addict based on the Federal definitions.

Qualifications

Minimum of a High School diploma or a GED

North Carolina Certified Peer Support Specialist credential

Meet the provider qualification policies, procedures, and standards established by DMA

Meet the provider qualification policies, procedures, and standards established by the Division of Mental Health/Developmental Disabilities and Substance Abuse Services (DMH/DD/SAS)
-
Approved as a provider in the PIHP provider network
-
Fulfill the requirements of 10A NCAC 27G
-
Persons eligible to provide this service will achieve certification in the State of North Carolina as a Peer Support Specialist by satisfactorily completing the 40-hour state-approved training
-
Must receive supervision from a Qualified Professional if the person is not themselves a Qualified Professional (paraprofessionals)

Responsibilites
-
Complete clinical assessment, treatment planning, and/or arranging of appropriate therapeutic programs.
-
Provide counseling services based on mental health, psychological, and human development theories, principles, and techniques to youth, adults, and groups.
-
Deliver psychoeducation to consumers, providing information regarding mental health, emotional disorders, substance use, co-occurring disorders, and/or behavioral health.
-
Regularly analyze and assess consumer progress through accepted objective and subjective measures; maintain up-to-date progress notes.
-
Creates appropriate therapeutic interventions for both individuals and/or groups of consumers.
-
Review and evaluate recent psychosocial health research and interpret it to professionals and consumers.
-
Provide de-escalation techniques and crisis intervention as necessary.
-
Coordinate with clinical, health education, community health, and other staff members in the provision of services to consumers. Provide referrals for services needed.
-
Creates discharge plans and acts as liaison to referral sources and supports of continuation of care as needed.
-
Attend all trainings and supervisions as required.
-
Maintains all clinical documentation in accordance with regulatory and accrediting standards.
-
Adhere to all agency policies as well as state and federal laws.

Maintain consumer confidentiality and perform duties at the highest ethical and professional standards.

Assume other responsibilities as directed.

Experience in diagnosing, treating, and evaluating the effectiveness of treatment of children or adults with mental health or substance abuse disorders.

Direct service experience including face-to-face treatment and interventions for individuals with a primary mental health or substance use diagnosis.

Ability to diagnose according to the standards of the DSM-5-TR.
-
Knowledge of several clinical modalities, including the provision of trauma-informed care frameworks.
-
Willingness to provide services with empathy while upholding the dignity and autonomy of our consumers.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.
-
Experience in using computers and software, including Microsoft Office products.
-
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clients, families, caregivers, diverse service provider networks, medical personnel, and agency staff.

Ability to work independently in the field and effectively as a part of a team, and follow the agency’s values.

Ability to work under pressure, within short timelines to implement service plans.

Must be willing to see clients at home or in the community occasionally.

Qualifications

Master’s degree or higher from an accredited university in the behavioral and mental health field.

NC Licensed Mental Health Professional (social worker, mental health counselor, marriage and family therapist, doctoral level psychologist) in good standing. Provisionally licensed individuals will be considered.

Responsibilities

Perform comprehensive functional assessments and reassessments, which integrate symptomatology and treatment recommendations into plans of care

Develop appropriate plans of care or person-centered plans to assist clients with identified outcomes and objectives. Ensure short-term and long-term intensive service plan implementation, including authorization of specific in-home and community services to meet the identified client needs

Resolution of client-directed concerns to ensure quality service delivery

Collaboration and coordination were made with other providers of client services

Discharge, terminate, or transfer as needed to ensure optimum care

Adherence to all agency policies, including ethics, service regulations, and professional practices

Day Support Worker
Responsibilities
-
Work to create an environment conducive to learning and the acquisition of skills

Assist clinical staff in the assessment of individual skills development and implementation of appropriate programs, which may require physically assisting individuals, including lifting, passive restraints, and hand-over-hand assistance

Maintain appropriate progress notes and pertinent records corresponding to Individual Support Plans and other pertinent record-keeping requirements

Provide group treatment to clients with co-occurring disorders by engaging them in activities that focus on the development of skills to be used by individuals in their living, learning, social and working environments; Social, problem solving and coping skill development; Illness and medication self-management; Prevocational skills and Recreational activities and/or leisure skills which support a goal on the IRP and improve rehabilitation skills necessary for recovery.

Responsibilities

Coordinate, prepare, and maintain required charting and documentation in a timely and thorough manner

Assist the household tasks to be inclusive of, including but not limited to supervising meal preparation and cleanup, shopping for groceries and household supplies, ordering food and supplies, performing laundry duties, cleaning the facility, collecting garbage, and other duties as needed
